For much of my childhood, I've heard stories about the Mazury. This is Poland's lakeland, an vast landscape of forests and lakes, between Bialystok and Elblag, the cities in Poland that were always home for my parents. Finally, the almost mythical "Mazury" have been made real for me. We spent two days driving around the region, stopping in many small towns along the way with some of the main stops being: Wojnowo, Krutyn, Mikolajki, Mragowo, Swieta Lipka, Reszel, and Biskupiec. Beautiful, all of it, but a bit quiet. We'll have to come back in Spring and Summer some time to experience this region the way it is meant to be enjoyed -- with blue skies, green trees, and warm waters!
