Fall Holiday - Finland: Savonlinna

Far, far to the east, in the Lakeland region that straddles the border region with Russia, we made our next stop. The town of Savonlinna is hours from the west where we began our journey, but we decided to make the trip in order to broaden our perspective on Finland. Out here, we felt very far removed from the rest of Europe. There's something about Scandinavia that is much like Australia, when here, you feel separate from the rest of the world, disconnected from the troubles that seem to be brewing everywhere but here. In Savonlinna, we felt particularly far removed.
