One Week on the Gulf - Day 3: From Desert to Wadi

If every day could begin with a desert sunrise, then life would be pretty good! Our morning in the Wahiba Sands was amazing -- we climbed the giant dune under which we had camped and, once on top, wandered along the ridge for a while, taking in the otherworldly atmosphere. From there we drove north, towards the coast, stopping in at Wadi Bani Khalid in the early morning before have lunch at the beautiful seaside town of Sur, before making our way to another beautiful wadi, Wadi al Shab for the afternoon. And, what is a wadi, you may be wondering? In arabic, a wadi is a narrow valley or ravine, which is often a source of water, sometimes only in the rainy season. Both wadis that we visited had plenty of water, lots of palm trees, and incredible red and white stone cliffs. It was a day of stunning landscapes!
