Unlike it's neighbor, Oman is quite mountainous. We began along the northern coast of Oman in the city of Sohar where we had spent the night in a nice resort hotel from where we drove due south, then east, following the southern slope of the range that stretches across most of northern Oman from the border with the UAE to the capital Muscat. Along the way, we visited several historic forts and desert oases before settling down for the night in the northern part of the Wahiba Sands desert of northeastern Oman. This was one of the most unique camping experiences I've had -- incredible, really.
