One of the perqs of international teaching is the opportunity to travel for conferences, training, and events. When possible, timing these trips just right can lead to great travel experiences, too. Recently, an important math conference in Dubai coincided with our February ski week, allowing me to get away for a week in the UAE and Oman. After transferring in Moscow, we had five days to explore this small part of the Middle East before our conference began. For the first day of our adventure along the Persian Gulf, we began in Abu Dhabi, visiting the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, before driving the width of the United Arab Emirates and crossing the border into Oman just before sundown.
