Christmas in Morocco - Day 3: Meknes, Volubilis, and Moulay Idriss

Not far from Fes is another of Morocco's three royal cities. Although it is proclaimed to be the "Versailles of Morocco", Meknes is much less touristy and, immediately gave us a more authentic feel for life in Morocco. And, just 30 minutes from Meknes, the ancient Roman city of Volubilis is not only the best Roman site in the country, but also gave us our first taste of Moroccan countryside. Built literally on a hilltop, the sacred town of Moulay Idriss was a wonderful stop in between. We needed more of this and would soon get more.
