3 Weeks in South East Asia - Days 16 and 17: Siem Reap to the River Kwai
A 20-hour period during these two days required us getting from Point A (Siem Reap in Cambodia) to Point B (the River Kwai in Thailand). As we've mentioned more than a few times, back in the day, this would have meant something like 30 hours on a bumpy, dusty bus trip. Now that we are no longer shoestring travellers, we flew from Siem Reap back to Bangkok, spent an overnight at a hostel near Thonburi Railway Station, and took a beautiful 4 hour train trip from Thonburi to the River Kwai. This travel was book-ended with a great, relaxing day in Siem Reap during which we rested, ate, walked around, got some haircuts and pedicures, and a great afternoon and evening at the River Kwai Resotel, our final and most luxurious hotel on this trip. Getting to the hotel was half the fun as we took a river boat down the River Kwai to the hotel's small pier. Out here, we definitely feel like we're far from it all. It's a great place to cap off our adventures with Maryalice and Devon. But, as always, it's not so much Point A and Point B that are important but what happens in between and this was very much true on this leg of the journey where we experienced so much in between our start in Siem Reap and at our end 600 km. away on the River Kwai.
