Heading west, beyond the fringe of Chinatown, one arrives in Tanjong Pagar. A little less chaotic than Chinatown, but still filled with streets of historic shophouses, this area has become one of the more sought after neighborhoods in Singapore. It's lively, there are plenty of restaurants, and the shophouses are painted in every color of the rainbow. In other words, its the perfect place to go for a walk to enjoy a bit of contemporary Singaporean culture. Further west, Tanjong Pagar becomes more residential and subdued. The restaurants end, and tall, HDB housing flats begin to rise up. However, if you're patient and walk a little further, you'll reach Everton Park, the last of the historic neighborhoods and completely detached from the rest. Without a doubt, this is my favorite residential neighborhood in Singapore. The historic homes are beautiful and the entire area is quiet, any time of day. This is where I would like to live in Singapore. I have a feeling, however, that places here may be out of our price range.
