Hazy Days in Singapore

For the past two or three weeks, all that everyone can talk about is haze. During planting season, farmers in Indonesia burn the land to prepare for their new crops. These fires rage for weeks and, when the wind blows in Singapore's direction, that smoke covers the entire island in a yellowish haze. From what we hear, this is the worst the haze has ever been. Day after day, outdoor classes and activities are cancelled and
more and more people can be seen wearing surgical masks daily. We even had school cancelled last Friday when the particulate count surpassed 300, an amount considered very dangerous. For us, it has
meant many more evenings and weekends spent at home.
