For our second day and night in Java, we went to Prambanan, the region's second biggest attraction after Borobudur. In many ways, we found our time at Prambanan to be more special than our experience at Borobudur. First, the main temple complex is much less busy than the temple at Borobudur. Second, some of the temples retain a very strong sense of spirituality. Third, the Prambanan plain has about ten key sites scattered across a very large area. With a very crude map in hand, we had a fantastic day out on the scooter seeking out ancient temples hidden away in farmers' fields. Finally, let's not forget the kids' park at Prambanan where the toy train and ATV rides made up for the lacklustre playground and the boys had the time of their lives! Add to that a wonderful homestay experience and our time in Prambanan was the best of our time in eastern Java.
