Yesterday, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy held a 10th anniversary celebration of the
transformation of Crissy Field. Back in the early part of the 20th century and throughout the great wars, Crissy Field was a military airport. Aircraft launched from here were an integral part of the Allied victory in the Pacific. In 1974, the last aircraft took off from the airfield. Since then, Crissy Field has been a recreation
area. Ten years ago, the entire area was refurbished. The marsh was restored, paths created, and picnic areas added. I didn't know the old Crissy Field but I know the current incarnation very well. We've spent countless weekend hours walking, biking, rollerblading, and relaxing in its grasses. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, park staff were handing out free kites. Naturally, Rai took two (one for Ko, of course!). Kite flying ensued. Good times were had by all.
