Now pointing north, our route followed the west coast of Finland. Here, along the Gulf of Bothnia, there is a strong link to Sweden with many communities speaking both languages. As the land continues to rebound following the last Ice Age, this body of water continues to narrow as the land rises, up to 1 mm. per year in some places. The villages and towns along the coast are colorful collections of wooden homes, with some, like Rauma, having centers so well preserved that it doesn't take much imagination to feel what life was like here one or two hundred years ago. Beyond Rauma, we visited Pori, Yyteri Beach, Noormarkku, Kristinestad, Harrstrom, Vaasa, Jakobstad, Neristan, and Raahe. Just a few stops.
