The southern coast of Norway from not much beyond Oslo to the very southern tip at Kristiansand, is known as the Skaggerak Coast as it opens to the Skaggerak Strait which separates Norway and Denmark. This stretch of coast is Norway's summertime playground as the sun can actually be seen here while the inland mountains often remain shrouded in mist and rain. We had just a couple days along this coast as we continued our journey towards the western fjords but, this did give us our only true sunny day in Norway so far -- perfect for a day in Mandal and it's wonderful beaches! And, it wasn't just the beaches that made Mandal a highlight for us. The century-old, slightly decaying pension that we stayed at was also a unique experience.
