Cesis

Less than an hour from Riga is Gauja National Park, a long, hilly, forested valley that follows the Gauja River as it passes several historic towns. At the further end is Cesis, a beautiful medieval town with one of Latvia's best preserved castles at its center. It was Saturday but felt like a Monday -- we were the only ones there or, at least it felt that way!
