A contentious topic this summer: was my dive into Wolfgangsee a belly flop? Most of my family, including those from Canada argue that it was. I'm alone, I think, in suggesting that although it was, certainly, a bad dive it definitely was not a belly flop.
Let's begin with the definition of a "belly flop":
This seems to suggest the diver enters the water in a horizontal position; ie: parallel to the water's surface. Further, we can reach the implication that the belly makes contact first or, at least, together with the other body parts that are parallel to the water's surface. Now, consider the two images below, one showing my contact with the water and the other showing a moment just before contact for a dive that looks more like a belly flop.
