Much less explored than southern Greece and the islands, the north eastern part of Greece feels like a different country. Greece's second city, Thessaloniki, prides itself at being something much different than Athens, the Halkidiki Peninsula is a coastal paradise reserved for those in-the-know, and the further east one travels, the more visible the mesh of cultures becomes. Our visit here began with vibrant and beautiful Thessaloniki before heading south to the Peninsula where, we focused on the middle of the three fingers, Sithonia. While exploring it's beaches, and rocky coves, we could see the unexpected snowy peak of Mt.Athos on the next peninsula to the east. From the Halkidiki Peninsula, we kept following the coast towards Turkey, stopping in the historic coastal city of Kavala, and then heading just slightly inland into Xanthi.
