Latvian Independence Day

Last weekend, Latvia celebrated its 99th year of independence. Considering the years of German and Soviet rule that followed independence in 1918, Latvian's take this celebration very seriously. We did as many do by visiting the Freedom Monument in downtown Riga and the giant Bralu and Meza Cemeteries. All weekend long, Riga as celebrated the event with the Staro Riga event which brought some much needed light to the dark, winter evenings in the city.
