Then, the tough times began. Enjoying the comforts of home, you must have decided that breast feeding was too much work. "Give me the bottle back," you yelled. We showed some patience and stamina and you tested both as at 8pm, 1 am, 3am, and 6am, you decided that you'd fuss, wail, and cry for at least an hour before you actually did some breast feeding.
Challenging times ahead... but when we see you sleep peacefully like this, all the lost sleep and hard work is easily forgotten.
I love those toes!!! Love that you guys are sharing so much of his new little life with us. Don't worry Ashe, breastfeeding is hard work in the beginning. (I remember thinking -screaming? -"ouch, ouch, ouch!" with Anya for the first six weeks. Just breathe.) Get all the help you need. It does get better and then it is great.
ReplyDeleteRai is lucky to have the two of you as parents. Many blessings to all of you.
love marla
I think that the newborn stage is the hardest part... especially the sleep deprivation and trying to breastfeed. It eventually does get easier.
ReplyDeleteJoel was in the NICU for two days, and during that time, he was given the bottle (what else are you going to do, the little guys need to gain weight to get out of there)! But he did take up breastfeeding again once he got home. So, there is definitely hope! Just be persistent, and don't put too much pressure on yourself to do everything perfectly... life with children is sometimes just sloppy!
