Road Trip - Day 2

Today was the day that the rest of the trip was planned around. Today, we rode the world-famous Skunk Train. The Skunk Train follows a 30-mile long, 130 year old rail line over big hills and through deep forests. From Willits to Fort Bragg, this rail line was built in 1885 to transport giant redwoods that had been logged in these hills. Much of San Francisco was built from trees felled in these woods. Although the forest was clear cut, the train trip through the new growth is still an incredibly scenic route. The train was great, but the highlights were definitely the big trees and the musician who played tune after tune on his guitar, flute, and pan flute. We had no idea that a flute could be played that way -- wow!

Road Trip - Day 1

It's a long weekend so we decided to take they boys on their very first road trip. We decided to head north to redwoods country and, although our destination, Ukiah, is just a few hours north of San Francisco, we decided to take the scenic route along the coast. It was a beautiful, but long first day and now, here we are, in Ukiah, ready for our train journey this morning. The Day 1 highlights for the boys were the music at the Point Reyes Station Farmers' Market, and the chocolate caboose in Boonville.

The Beach

How many times can we post photos from Baker Beach? Well, honestly, the answer is: hundreds. This story and its photos may not be unique, but for us, even living just by Baker Beach, this place will never get old. It's amazing and we are amazingly lucky to make our home on this incredible piece of planet Earth.

Toothbrush Time

We've heard lots of horror stories about kids not much older and even younger than Rai with serious tooth problems. Decay, cavities, tooth removal and surgery -- we've heard it all. We are definitely not interested in those kinds of issues. Our solution: have Rai and Ko carry around toothbrushes 24/7. If you're brushing all day long, you'll never even have the chance to put any food in your mouth and no food in the mouth means no cavities. Perfect.

Ready to Ride!

I talk to Rai and Ko a lot about wanting to get a motorcycle. They must be listening because every time we visit a playground, they end up running for the little triple see-saw which resembles, well... a motorcycle! Rai actually calls them "motorcyles" and Ko calls them something else entirely, but we'll just assume that he's saying motorcyle, too!
