Labor Day

We did a bit of laboring on this Labor Day. The hike up and down Steep Ravine on the southwestern slopes of Mt.Tamalpais, while not too difficult, is pretty... well, steep. With the weight of the boys on our backs, we got a bit of exercise coming back up the Steep Ravine. We were hoping that the fog would recreate that magical walk we had with Bart, Kristin, and Cole two summers ago, but it turned out that, while it was foggy in S.F., it was a perfectly clear and hot day in Marin.

Beach Train

One of Rai's and Ko's favorite board books is a story about a train that, after traveling through the forest, enters a tunnel only to emerge on the coast. The end of the line being right at the beach. When reading that story to the boys, we always thought about how nice a rail trip like that would be. Today, we didn't need to imagine any more. We rode the historic train from beautiful Felton, through the redwoods, down to the beach in Santa Cruz. Was it the best rail journey we've made with the boys? Without a doubt. They loved it!
On the way home, we even had time to make a stop at Hole-in-the-Wall Beach and then at the historic Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero for some dinner and dancing. What a day!
