Lots of Voices in Our Home

Ko may not have the articulation that Rai had at his age, but his vocabulary and sentence building certainly have taken off. He makes some great 4 and 5 word sentences and he can mimic almost anything Rai says. Sure, it comes out sounding a bit slurred and mumbled, but his ability to reproduce sounds has grown substantially. Below is a video of Ko rattling off some farm animals he knows and Ko does love singing, but we couldn't get him to join Rai on the ABC Song in the second embedded video.

A Great Day in the GGNRA

The nation's largest urban National Park can be found inside and surrounding San Francisco. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a Bay Area wonder, putting nature literally right at the city's doorstep. Hardly a weekend goes by when we don't find ourselves taking advantage of this park and last weekend Point Bonita, with its cliffs and historic lighthouse, were our destination.

Feed the Birds

When Grandma and Grandpa are out of town, someone has to fill the bird feeder in their backyard or, as Ko likes to say, someone has to "feed the birds!" With two grand kids in their lives, this big responsibility clearly falls on Rai's and Ko's shoulders and it it a responsibility they have taken on, well, responsibly and enthusiastically. They love to make the daily trip over to Grandma and Grandpa's magical garden. Filling the bird feeder is just a convenient excuse to spend some time playing in this miniature wonderland.

New Years in Chinatown

The Lunar New Year may have come and gone several weeks ago, but the celebration continues in Chinatown. Traditionally, the New Year is a two-week celebration. The culmination of the two week period in San Francisco is the Chinatown street fair and parade. Hearing about the dancing lions, Rai and Ko had to visit the street fair today to see it for themselves. The lion dancers may not have been what they had imagined but they loved it all the same. Gung Hai Fat Choy!

Rai is 46 Months Old Today!

Today, Rai turned 46 months old!  Almost 50! Almost 4 years old, too! As he has reached this mature age, we feel he's ready to try new things. One of those new things is the running of his very own cafe. The Sequoia Cafe opened up at Grandma and Grandpa's house a few weeks ago and, so far, it's a big success. They started with just coffee and waffles on the menu, but it's time that we add more to the blank menu. Send ideas!

One More Night

Every Friday night, Rai and Ko get to watch 15 minutes of "t.v.". We don't actually have a t.v., so what that means is that they curl up with Mom in bed and watch 15 minutes of the streaming video of their choice on Netflix. So far, they have chosen the same video every time: Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue. They can't get enough of that one. As they are such big Tinkerbell fans, we had to get them some Tinkerbell pajamas. I think they may even look cuter than the fairy herself.

Following the breaking of his leg, it took Rai a long time to build up the confidence to climb and play on play structures. Nowadays, that fear is a thing of the past. He climbs with the best of them. And Ko, well, he just follows his brother wherever he goes. It's a wonder he hasn't broken his leg yet, too!

Happy Birthday, Sequoia Grove!

Today, the Sequoia Grove celebrates it's 1400 day birthday! What a milestone! Back when we started the blog, our goal was to post some words and some photos daily. Although we miss a day or two here and there, we've stayed close to our goal: there are 1270 posts on the Grove. That means that 9 of every 10 days, you'll still find something new on our site. We can't expect that all our original readers have hung on for these hundreds and hundreds of posts but, for those who have, hope you've enjoyed it as much as we continue enjoying to publish it! Even if no one else is browsing, we certainly are. Rai and Ko love to look back on old photos and videos. That's great as, after all, this is about them and for them; something they will look back on for years and years to come (we hope).
Wait... I guess all this means that Rai is also 1400 days old as the blog began when Rai joined our lives nearly 4 years ago!  Happy birthday to Rai and Sequoia Grove, both! Rai and Ko were so excited about the news that they had to do a little dance. And, then they had to do some jumping from the couch. And, when they had had enough of that, they had to stack all the cushions into a giant heap and play on that. What a celebration!
