The Golden Gate National Recreation Area has seen a lot of changes this past year. The biggest change is the new Doyle Drive project which modernizes the entire freeway through the Presidio that leads to the Golden Gate Bridge. However, smaller changes have also taken place. One is the building of a new building at the Sutro Baths end of the Lands End trail. The Lands End Lookout is a great new building offering a place to warm up and get some food at the end of this fabulous trail. Also, right at the SF end of the Golden Gate Bridge, the new Bridge Pavilion is another great shop/cafe building. We were super impressed with the pavilion. Ko, not so much.

As Rai hits the midpoint of his second year at Phoebe Hearst Preschool, we're often reminded just how grateful we are that both of our boys ended up at this wonderful place. Their days at Phoebe Hearst shape have helped to shape them into the confident, smart, and caring boys that they are growing to be. Arriving at the end of the day to find the two of them playing together in the outdoor play area is the best way to end my day. Nowhere else is their brotherly bond more evident than in those shared moments in the playground. I could watch them secretly for hours. Meanwhile, all of Rai's friends have taken Ko in as one of their own. We're sad to think about the day when Rai and Ko and all these friends from preschool go their separate ways to elementary schools all over the city.

When Pigs Fly

One day (when pigs fly), Ko may stop spilling things on purpose or making big messes wherever he goes. If only he'd learn from his big brother...

Koey's Love: Siri

Rai has Lalima and, Ko has Siri. Every time we visit Ko's old babysitter, Lucy, we are reminded just how close Ko and her daughter, Siri, got over those many months together. Watching them together is the sweetest thing. Hopefully, Siri doesn't move away like Lalima did. Oh, wait, she'll be moving back to England in a year or two.

Breaking Chains Forever

In just the past few weeks, the Burley bike carriage has gotten more use than it has in several years. It looks like the boys are finally the perfect age combination for the carriage. Instead of screams and cries, all I hear from behind now is giggles and laughter. Now, we'll be getting in as many rides as we can every week before they get too heavy for poor old dad to tow.

Rai's Dream Night

If you were to ask Rai what his dream evening would be, he would simply say: "Get me my favorite people: Grandma, Grandpa, and Alicia" (his favorite teacher from preschool". Well, last weekend, we made Rai's dream evening a reality. All his favorite people came over for dinner. A dream night with the dream team.

Coit Tower

I've already learned many times over that San Francisco is a city that I'll keep exploring for a lifetime and that there will always be something new to discover. This past weekend, our latest "discovery" was Coit Tower. Okay, it's hardly a "well kept secret". Every tourist and tourist bus makes a stop at Coit Tower. We've been there a hundred times but, we've never gone to the top. I guess we figured that it was too expensive an elevator ride for just a slightly elevated view of the city.
What we didn't realize is that Coit Tower is deceptively tall. It looks just several stories tall from the exterior. Amazingly, it turns out that it's an impressive 21 stories tall. That extra 21 stories really makes a difference. We enjoyed some very fine panoramic views of San Francisco from up top. We may not ride the elevator again for years to come, but we're sure glad that we did this time!
