Drake's Beach

Point Reyes National Seashore is close enough to San Francisco that it makes an incredible destination for those seeking a bit of coastal isolation yet far enough from San Francisco that it remains just that: isolated. We don't go there often, but every time we have made the trip, we've ended up walking miles and miles of amazing beach all by ourselves. Today, it was just the four of us walking along Drake's Beach, marveling at those towering cliffs.

Lead or Follow?

If we were in back in the '50s or '60s and this was Communist China, then Rai would certainly be swept up in all that socialist propaganda while Ko may not be such an easy recruit.

Red Light Camera

This afternoon, we received an unexpected phone call. Apparently, our Honda CR-V had been caught passing through a red light by a red light camera. Typically, this would be a routine procedure -- a photo and ticket would be sent by mail. However, upon closer inspection, the photo of our car revealed something odd, something that warranted a phone call from the San Francisco Police Department. Not only had our Honda passed through a red light, it was also clear in the photo that it had been taken out for a joy ride. The passenger was not buckled in and was actually standing up with their head out the sunroof! Worse yet, the driver was a toddler under the age of two.
That's right, Rai and Ko, instead of playing outside like they had told us they were doing, had slipped away with the keys to the car and took it for a little joyride in downtown S.F. I guess this is something that all parents deal with at some point, but we didn't expect to see this happen until the boys were teenagers. I guess all that "play driving" that both Rai and Ko have been doing lately gave them some ideas. We'll have to hide our keys...

The Golden (Haired) Boys

Genetics can be tricky. Some traits lay hidden or dormant while others are plain as day. Rai and Ko are fair skinned and have golden hair. It's safe to assume that that comes from their Mom. They're both good looking -- Mom. Rai's pretty smart -- Mom, too. Ko looks to be quite the couch potato -- yup, Mom. Did they get anything from Dad? We haven't found it yet.
Speaking of golden hair, however, whenever the sun sets over the Golden Gate, and the warm sunset light comes in through our windows, the boys' hair looks even more golden. Wow!

Global Citizens

A great little friend for Ko and Rai is Siri, the child of Ko's morning time babysitter. About as much older than Ko as she is younger than Rai, Siri can play with either of them equally well! The best thing about Siri is that she is British and will certainly soon exhibit a very cute accent. Ashe has always been more than just a little jealous of our GPS avatar, a cute British lady whose accent is simply stunning so, since Dad has had his British mistress for a while now, it's great that Rai and Ko now have a real live British lady to call a friend. What can we say, our little boys are quite the global citizens, aren't they?! (let's not mention that Siri lives in the Presidio with us, just up the road)

One of Ko's new words is "brothers". Whenever we ask him to say "Rai", he says "brothers" instead and he usually adds a little pat to Rai's arm or head while he's saying it. Considering all the hopes we have for our boys being the closest brothers, the best of friends, there is nothing that warms our hearts more than to hear Ko's little voice saying, "brothers". video

Rai is 35 Months Old Today!

Rai turned 35 months old today. As he nears 3 years of age, he is pulling the classic maneuver many aging people pull: he is claiming to be younger than he really is. The latest attempt at this was him putting a "Big Brother" t-shirt on Ko while wearing a "Little Bro" t-shirt himself. Aging is tough, Rai. Just wait until you're the real 35!

Great Grandpa

We should really make an effort to get the boys together with their great grandfather more often than once per year. Or, was that the first time he and Ko met? Yikes!

We made a long overdue visit to Pleasanton this weekend and, in addition to the four family members we love to see there, we had the added bonus of three extra family members visiting from rainy Portland. What a joy to see everyone and to meet beautiful, little Scarlett for the first time (whoops -- second time!)!
